Dear Parents,

This is the last week of school and the year has flown by so quickly. All the children have progress in both academic and social areas. I am so proud of all the students and everyone will be going to first grade next year! Graduation will be tomorrow at 8:20 to 9:30 and all children need to wear uniforms. All parents are encouraged to bring cameras to record this memorable event! This has been a wonderful class and certainly, I will remember these students for many years to come! I wish all of you a safe and happy summer- I hope to see all of you next year at Palmer Way School!

Love,
Miss Ramos

Dear Parents,

Welcome back from Spring Break and there are about nine weeks of school left. In A-1, the students will be learning about the farm, farm animals, oviparous animals, and things about Spring. We are also in Chapter 10 of the math books and Chapter 2 of our new science books. The students are progressing well on the computer, with most children already on the first grade reading and math programs. Journal writing is getting longer with a lot of students writing their own stories, using their own topics.

Big thank you to all parents who returned the pictures/picture money this week, as the office is collecting the pictures from all grade levels. “Happy Birthday” to Sarah and Norva who both turned 6 in March and looking forward to the May birthdays with Miss Lucy, Cristel, and Gwyneth. In addition, look forward to our up coming Zoo trip in May!! More news to follow!

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year! Another short week and in A-1, we have been busy learning about winter, the weather and snowmen. All the kindergarten classes have also begun switching students during our English Language Development time- the children are grouped by language ability and sent to the various kindergarten classes for lessons, songs and stories. The scheduled time is 30 minutes, 4 days a week, except for Thursdays. The students seem to enjoy visiting other classrooms and teachers!

On Friday, February 1st, our class will celebrate the 100th day of school. Every child needs to bring a collection of 100 items to school on that day. Past collections have included 100 beans, candies, rubber bands, cereal, stickers, small toys, pennies or anything else that can fit in a ziplock bag. Please begin a collection with your child and he/she can bring it to school as soon as possible.

Thank-you for your continued support as we fly through the New Year together!

November 2, 2012

Dear Parents,

October is behind us and November is here! I hope all of you enjoyed Halloween with all the goodies and goblins! In A-1, we had a great party with treats and a spooky movie which lasted all week. Many thanks to Mikayla and her family for the movie, “Spooky Buddies”.  The classroom is still decorated with an autumn theme and we will begin next week with owls, foxes, bears, and squirrels. We will be studying about the forest, nocturnal animals, and habitats.

In math, we are in the middle of Chapter 5 which focuses on numbers from 11 to 15 with counting and quantity. I will be sending home Chapter 4 math review in this week’s upcoming homework.

For journal writing, the student’s are focusing on incorporating sight words into their sentences on a daily basis. This week’s new words are: “they”, “are”, “we”, “he”, and “she”. Please help your child learn these additional words by arm spelling and continuous practice.

Conferences and report cards are coming up shortly and I will be sending out a schedule to sign-up at your convenience.

Veteran’s Day falls on Monday, November 12th and school will not be in session on that day. We will resume on Tuesday, November 13th.

Also, we will have a whole week off for Thanksgiving which is Monday, November 19th through Friday, November 23rd. School will resume on Monday, November 26th.

Be on the look out for upcoming schedules in the weekly homework and as always you can call me at school at 336-8901 for any additional information.

Happy November, my favorite month!

October 22, 2012

Dear Parents,

It is the middle of October and in A-1, the class is decorated with apple trees, fall leaves and a pumpkin patch. Although the weather may not feel like it, autumn is here and the students are learning about the season.

The class is learning to write longer sentences with more sight words and better spacing. The October journals have clearer writing and pictures with more detail. The computer programs are becoming more difficult, as the students are learning the reading and math skills.

In math, we are in Chapter 4, which focuses on numbers from 6-10. Number counting and quantity are important concepts to master – please help your child if they have difficulty.

Halloween festivities are ahead, as the school will hold an after school celebration with a costume parade and movies. There will be more information next week.

September 21, 2012

Dear Parents,

The month of September has flown by and in A-1 the classroom is filled with pictures of autumn leaves, apple trees, and fall stories. The students have survived vision screening, picture make-up day, the book fair, the Westcoast fundraiser, and dance class with Ms. Cybele.

The children have progressed very well in all academic areas including reading, writing, mathematics, and computers. The homework packets sent home today include review of concepts and skills taught in the past few weeks. Please take some time every day to do one or two pages of their homework packet and help your child keep their skills fresh! Also I have sent home the September journals and they can be turned over for more writing with letters, sight words, and sentences.

A BIG THANK YOU to all parents, grandparents, and families who supported our class in the Book Fair “All for Books” program which provided new books for our classroom. Due to your support, our classroom raised the most money and each student was rewarded with a book of their choice from the Book Fair! In addition we won the BIG GOLD TROPHY!  🙂

We celebrated this month the following birthdays:

  • Rhianna – September 2nd
  • Gian – September 4th
  • Aeris – September 9th
  • Christopher – September 14th
  • Caelyb – September 23rd

All of whom turned 5 this month and a BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY goes out to all of them!

On a little sad note 😦 , our friend Caelyb moved to a new house and will therefore go to a new school in October. We will miss our friend, wish him good luck, and hope that he can visit us whenever he’s in National City!

We will be on fall break for two weeks and I look forward to seeing all of you back at Palmer Way on Tuesday, October 9th! I wish all of you a safe and wonderful mini-vacation!

See you soon!
Miss Ramos

Dear Parents,

The last few weeks have been very eventful at Palmer Way School and in Room A-1. I would like to thank all parents for attending their conferences and receiving the take-home packet with letter, number, and sight word flash cards. Please continue to help your child review letters, sounds, numbers, and sight words. Also, the August journal went home today and can be used for review and for daily entries of letters and short sentences on any blank pages.

We return to school on Tuesday, September 4th and I look forward to an exciting fall quarter with your student. Reading, writing, and mathematics will continue and in addition we will learn about social studies. I hope everyone has a safe and happy Labor Day weekend and look forward to seeing all of you on September 4th!

Sincerely,
Miss Ramos
