December 16, 2009

Dear Parents,

We’re about to go on winter break and I hope all of you have a safe and happy holiday season. I will be sending homework for reading, writing, and math for daily review during the winter break. Please remember that first grade is around the corner and all the children can benefit from daily review and practice. The class has been progressing nicely in all academic areas and I would like to see continued growth in the New Year. Once again, my best wishes to you and your family and we’ll see all of you back on January 11th, 2010. Happy New Year!

September 25th, 2009

September 25, 2009

It is the end of September and all of us in A1 have had an exciting week. Miss Erica, the dance instructor, comes on Wednesdays for dance lessons; we survived Picture Day and our first fire drill. In class, the children are learning letters, sounds and two sight words “I” and “see”. Some students recognize these words in sentences already! We have also started in our math books and next week, will begin the reading and math programs on the computer. The computer programs will be leveled at each child’s pace.

To all the parents who want to volunteer in class, all the office really needs is a current TB text from your doctor/health clinic and you cans tart to volunteer as soon as the test is verified. I so appreciate any help from all of the parents- there’s so much kindergarten to prepare and do with the students!

Thank-you for your continued support with homework and have a great weekend!

Miss Ramos

Parent Note

August 28, 2009

Dear Parents,

Welcome to a new school year and full-day kindergarten at Palmer Way School! My name is Miss Ramos and I will be your child’s teacher for the 2009-2010 school year. I have been a teacher for 27 years and I have been at Palmer Way teaching kindergarten since 1984. I am usually on campus from 7:45AM until 3:45PM and can be reached by phone at 336-8901.

The children and I have finished our first week of school and it has been one to remember. There are 11 boys and 11 girls in the class, some with preschool experience and many with no school experience at all. Getting used to the full-day schedule will be quite a task, as regular bedtimes and routines will help your child do well at school.

Class begins at 8:15AM and ends at 2:20PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Class is dismissed at 1:00 on Thursdays, our school’s “short day”. Homework begins next week and soon, I will be asking for parents to volunteer their time to help in our class. I look forward to meeting all of you and having the best kindergarten experience with your children. Please call me at 336-8901 with any questions or concerns you may have- let’s work together to build your child’s success in school! I will try to update my blog every few weeks!

Miss Ramos

Back To School!

August 24, 2009

Welcome back to school parents and students! This is August 2009 and all of us are looking forward to a great school year. This year, all the kindergarten classes are full day, beginning from 8:15AM to 2:20 PM Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Thursday remains our short day and we go from 8:15AM to 1PM. In addition, I’m in a new room A-1, which is next door to Mrs. Black in A-2. We plan to ream teach this year, using the new promethean board in my class and art activities in her class. Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest and brings a snack for the morning recess. i will be dismissing the class at the front of the school at 2:20PM to avoid parking problems. My phone number is 336-8901 and I am usually on campus from 8AM to 3:45PM. Please call me with any concerns about your child and let’s work together to make kindergarten a great experience. Thank you so much for your support!

Upcoming Events

May 1, 2009

May is here and that means the end of kindergarten is drawing near!  I hope all of you had a wonderful Mother’s Day and are looking forward to Memorial Day and the traditional start of summer.  Also, May typically means end-of-year testing for first grade placement and wrapping up units about plants and animals.  This is the time of year where review of skills will definitely help your child with all those tests and give them the confidence they will need to be successful in first grade.

In A-2, we are finishing up our unit on animals and beginning the unit on plants and flowers.  We have read Rosie’s Walk,  The Little Red Hen and have made class books about these stories.  Also, we read books about flowers and painted beautiful flowers that decorate our classroom.

In math, the students are on Chapter 12, which deals with addition problems.  It seems to come fairly easy to most of the children.  The chapter deals with numbers from 1-10 and then 11-20.  If your child can count to 20 by one’s, five’s and ten’s, additon will not be as difficult for him/her.

Almost all the students are in the first grade reading and math programs on the computer.  I check their scores daily and am quite pleased with their individual progress.  Some students are nearing the second grade level in both programs- what an accomplishment!

Please work with your child on homework and encourage them to do their best everyday- this positive attitude helps your child more than you know!  Final tests for first grade begin next week and I will be sending home conference schedules as soon as the testing is completed.  We are in the home stretch- let’s end the year with great success!
