Happy Friday!

September 23, 2011

Dear Parents,

This last few weeks have been very eventful at Palmer Way School and in Room A1. I would like to thank all parents for attending their conferences and receiving the take-home packet with letter, number, and sight word flash cards. Please take the opportunity during this two-week break to help your child review letters, sounds, numbers, and sight words. Also, the September journal went home today and can be used during this vacation time for daily entries of letters and short sentences.

We return to school on Monday, October 10th and look forward to an exciting fall quarter. Reading, writing, and mathematics will continue and in addition we will learn about social studies and dance. I hope everyone has a safe and happy fall break and look forward to seeing all of you on October 10th!

Sincerely,
Miss Ramos

Welcome to the New School Year!

August 26, 2011

Dear Parents,

I would like to welcome all new students and parents to the 2011-2012 school year. My name is Miss Ramos and I will be your child’s teacher in Kindergarten. My phone number is (619) 336-8901 and I will be available in Room A1 from 7:30 am – 4:00 pm. Please feel free to call or visit our classroom during the week. I will try to update my blog periodically to keep all our tech-savvy parents up-to-date on all the latest Kindergarten news.

We are almost at the end of August and what a busy month it has been. Learning different routines, making good friends, and developing new skills that help children become capable students. Home support is so important and I want to thank all parents who work with their children by completing the homework assignments every Friday.

Despite the short week, everyone in A1 has been busy with learning letters, sounds, reading the SIPPS charts, spelling sight words, and writing in journals. In math, we are learning about sorting, patterning, and numbers 1 to 5. On computers, the students are in both the reading and math programs that become more difficult as they master individual skills.

Beginning today, my class will celebrate the best readers, writers, and mathematicians with special awards. There will be weekly recognition of the academic achievements among the students. This week, we applaud Damian and Thea as best readers, Emilio and Dennie as best writers, and Keean and Aleana as best mathematicians. Also, a big “Happy Birthday” to Damian, who turned 5 on August 24th. Have a great weekend!

Miss Ramos
